The Mobile Telephony service is an additional service for mobile telephony at ETH Zurich and complements the fixed network voice communication. It is managed exclusively by the ID Infrastructure section. The fees will be passed on to the originator. The services are described in the General Terms and Conditions "Mobile Telephony AGB". The rates are negotiated with the telecommunication service providers at regular intervals.
The service is exclusively available to ETH Zurich employees.
The costs are listed in the protected pagetariff overviewlock. The monthly costs of the subscriptions and the connections are charged to the originating cost center and can be viewed by the budget managers in ETHIS. The responsibility for financing and cost monitoring lies with the budget manager of the respective financial element.
Requests and changes to subscriptions must be entered via the IT Shop and, if costs are incurred as a result of the change, require the approval of the budget officer(s) via ETHIS.
The Swisscom Cockpit is available to all users for purchasing data packages (for business needs via the subscription and for vacations or private trips via private credit card) and managing settings. Further information can be found on the IT Knowledge Base page Mobile Telephony (in German).
Detailed billing and connection data can be requested with justification from the fleet management (OTRS Ticket).
Even if the subscriptions have no limits on data access, a "fair use policy" is contractually agreed. This does not permit excessive use of the subscription. The subscriptions are available for normal business and average private communication traffic. A monthly "normal" data usage of up to 40GB is assumed.
Users who regularly use more data than the normal usage (40GB) will be contacted in order to find alternative solutions for data usage.
It is expressly pointed out that the subscription costs do not include any device subsidies and therefore no discounted devices can be obtained.

The directive Corporate Mobile Network (CMN) of the Central Bodies (ZO) regulates the business and private use of the CMN, for a device provided for telephone accessibility, by employees in the Central Bodies of ETH Zurich. The corresponding policy was put into effect by the Executive Board on 9 July 2019.
The most important points of the policy are briefly summarised as follows:
Eligibility
All employees of the Central Bodies with permanent employment contracts will have the opportunity to apply for the Mobile Telephony service from ETH after the probationary period. The decision as to which persons are entitled to use the service and which usage category they are assigned to lies with the respective department or staff management. They also decide on the allocation of subscriptions and/or equipment for employees with temporary contracts in their area.
